Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions about the MMIW Memorial Grove, answered.

What is the MMIWG Memorial Grove?

The MMIWG Memorial Grove is a grassroots, volunteer-led nonprofit dedicated to honoring Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP), supporting their families, educating communities and raising awareness about the ongoing MMIP crisis. We do this through memorial displays and educational presentations at powwows, schools, universities, and community events. At those locations, we create spaces for remembrance, healing, education, and advocacy.

Why was the MMIWG Memorial Grove ecreated?

We believe every Missing and Murdered Indigenous Person deserves to be remembered, that every family deserves support, and that every community deserves to understand the MMIP crisis.

Our mission is to honor loved ones while helping organizations that provide direct support to MMIP families.

What does the MMIWG Memorial Grove Do?

We:

  • Travel with memorial displays honoring MMIP.

  • Provide educational presentations and awareness programs.

  • Participate in powwows, and events at schools, universities, and in community settings.

  • Build partnerships with Indigenous and grassroots organizations.

  • Raise funds for organizations providing direct support to MMIP families.

Where do the donations go?

100% of net proceeds from donations, raffles, fundraising events, and merchandise sales are donated to organizations providing the boot-on-the-ground support for MMIP families. Those organizations  include search teams, family advocacy groups, victim services, healing programs, and community directives.

Do you receive governmental or federal funding?

No. We are supported through donations, merchandise sales, raffles, fundraising events, sponsors, and community supporters.

Why do you still ask for support?

As our outreach grows, so does the costs of traveling to communities across the country.

Operational support helps us attend more events, educate more people, honor more families, and continue raising funds for organizations serving MMIP families. The founders that set up the Grove are only two people donating all they have to make sure this important work continues.

HOW can people help the MMIWG Memorial Grove?

What makes the MMIW Memorial Grove Unique?

We work directly with families and never display or honor loved ones without family permission.

Rather than raising funds to support ourselves, we sustain our organization so we can direct fundraising dollars to organizations serving MMIP families on the front lines.

We believe remembrance should inspire action, awareness should lead to advocacy, and compassion should become support.
