The Facebook page is currently active. The website connected to the FB is not active. They make posts about missing indigenous people. Those alerts are termed "Feather Alerts". Occasionally they will make updates to cases that they have posted about previously.
The MMIW NC website has a database that is not limited to, but is focused on native people that are located in or are from North Carolina. They are a small but mighty non-profit, and there are many family members and advocates in this group that work together to make a major difference. If this logo looks familiar, you might have seen it on our Partners Page.
Through the leadership of Council Delegate Amber Kanazbah Crotty, in March 2019 a working group was established to begin addressing the ongoing crisis of missing and murdered relatives on the Navajo Nation. The group is comprised of a multidisciplinary team tasked with developing a framework to establish a Missing & Murdered Diné Relatives data institute, encourage community action, and develop a missing persons community action toolkit to empower Navajo communities to be proactive in prevention, awareness, and mobilization to recover missing relatives and to provide support to families of MMDR.
This dynamic team is comprised of members from the Navajo Nation Missing Persons Updates, Navajo Nation Office of the Speaker, Navajo Nation Epidemiology Center, Navajo Area IHS, Navajo Human Rights Commission, Northern Arizona University Center for Health Equity Research, Diné College, local sexual and domestic violence coalitions, social justice advocates, college students, and families of MMDR.

First and foremost, my goal is provide visibility for cases that have gone unsolved and recent cases in which someone may be in danger. Secondly, my goal is to investigate the claim that Missing, Murdered, and Unidentified Indigenous Women is the "epidemic" many communities believe it to be. Thirdly, my goal is to humanize the issue of MMIW by putting faces, names, and case information to each individual. Fourthly, my goal is to consolidate important case information from multiple sources across the internet into one concise profile. Finally, my goal is to provide open source information regarding the prevalence of violence against Native women to be used by anyone for the purpose of researching or aiding this issue. My hope is that journalists, sociologists, anthropologists, criminal psychologists, law enforcement agencies, tribal entities and law makers can use this information to forward critical changes in policy and funding to find solutions to this issue.
The Navajo Nation Missing Persons Updates (NNMPU) is another FB group located in the American Southwest. They are currently active, and are constantly working on updating missing cases they know of within the Navajo Nation.
This article is from 2019, so any information in this will need more updated statistics. What we can say is, pay attention to the human emotion in this article. It takes place in New Mexico, but that isn't the only state where this issue is a problem.

Currently, we have found that searching on the FBI page for just MMIW will not get results. That is why we stress to researchers that they should know several acronyms for this issue in Native country.

Stolen Spirits is a dedicated community focused on raising awareness and advocating for justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG), through shared stories, resources, and activism. Our mission is to shed light on these often-overlooked cases, provide support for affected families, and honor the spirits of those who have been lost.

"MISSOULA, Mont. — Native American women across the country are being murdered and sexually assaulted on reservations and nearby towns at far higher rates than other American women. Their assailants are often white and other non-Native American men outside the jurisdiction of tribal law enforcement."
Zuya Winyan Wicayu’onihan is a collaboration between Brave Heart Society (BHS) and Sovereign Bodies Institute (SBI), to assess scope and severity of the crisis of sex trafficking and missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls (MMIWG) in South Dakota and neighboring areas potentially impacted by the Keystone XL pipeline. Additionally, this project aims to identify gaps in healthcare, victims services, law enforcement capacity, and community resources that prevent violence or provide critical support to victims, and empower tribal nations and communities to meaningfully address them. This is an ongoing project that includes quantitative data collection and mapping, as well as fieldwork to gather stories and input on the current state of response capacity to and experiences of sex trafficking and MMIWG from community members, service providers, law enforcement, and tribal and community leadership.

This Facebook group has 38,000 members who share and update cases on MMIP from all over the United States and Canada.

This portal serves as a central hub for information, advocacy, and support related to MMIP cases, providing a comprehensive database for reporting and searching for missing persons.
Our mission is to empower families, friends, and communities impacted by these tragedies through accessible, transparent, and sensitive resources. The portal also aims to raise awareness of the MMIP crisis, foster collaboration among law enforcement, community organizations, and the public, and advocate for systemic changes to prevent further injustices.

CBC News has looked into 34 cases across Canada which involve the death or disappearance of Indigenous women, but which authorities say were not due to foul play.
In every case, families of the women say they do not accept the findings of police. They suggest murder may be involved.
CBC News found evidence in many of the cases that points to suspicious circumstances, unexplained bruises and other factors that suggest further investigation is warranted.
Many advocates for missing and murdered Indigenous women say these are exactly the kinds of cases requiring further scrutiny in a national inquiry.

(Still accessible as of 11/19/2025) The FBI has released a list of Native Americans it has verified as missing throughout New Mexico and the Navajo Nation. This list is part of an effort to improve the reporting and recovery of missing persons in Indian Country.
The FBI is seeking public assistance and information on the cases below. If you have information concerning any of these cases, please contact your local FBI office or the nearest American Embassy or Consulate or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov (tips can remain anonymous).

The MMIR Task Force of Colorado is a volunteer run grassroots organization that provides leadership, policy development, training, data compilation, advocacy, and support related to the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous relatives in the state of Colorado. Although we do collaborate with other MMIR groups across the country, we do not do national work. Our focus is MMIR with a specific tie to the state of Colorado. Part of their site has missing flyers and unsolved homicide flyers.
